Fern Flower Hermit
Plants in the fern family do not flower in the way other plants do, instead they reproduce with spores or rhizomes. Baltic myths, however, beg to differ. The legend of the Fern Flower speaks of a single, fabled bloom guarded by dark spirits. Blossoming on the Summer Solstice, it is said those who find the flower are granted great earthly riches. Based on this I was inspired to create a sort of fern-creature with a flower for an eye. Hidden deep in the recesses of a great forest the Fern Flower Hermit patiently waits to reveal themself. I used two different ferns as references in this limited-color work: the Autumn Fern for the flower, and the Japanese Painted Fern for the body.
